Fred Rhoads Illustrated, an interactive exhibit for families, explores the life and comic art of former Florence resident, Fred Rhoads. Experience hilarious mishaps in the post-World War II comic Sad Sack, along with other humorous drawings created during Mr. Rhoads’ time in Florence. Exercise your imagination by creating pantomime stories with familiar Sad Sack characters on our magnetic cartoon wall.
Draw your own comic illustrations with our take-home comic book template. When complete, share photographs of your comic book on Instagram or Twitter. Be sure to tag @flocomuseum and use #FCMcomics. Three lucky winners will be chosen to receive an autographed copy of Kulipari: An Army of Frogs, illustrated by comic book artist and South Carolina resident Sanford Greene. Submit your work by May 1, 2017 to enter. Winners will be notified by Instagram or Twitter direct message. Learn more about Mr. Greene here.
Fred Rhoads Illustrated opens November 22, 2016. The exhibit will be on display in the Florence County Museum Education Gallery through May 21, 2017.
This exhibit is presented by the H.M. and Pearl Kyle Foundation.
