The Wright Collection of Southern Art

This exhibition highlights selections from the Wright Collection of Southern Art, formed by Ann and Louis Wright, and acquired by the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation for exhibition at the Florence County Museum. The Wright Foundation for Southern Art, an independent not for profit entity, oversees the Wright Collection of Southern Art.

The authors are individuals with an intimate knowledge of and appreciation for the collection: Sherer Wright Royce, the daughter of Ann and Louis Wright, and associate professor of public health at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina; Benjamin T. Zeigler, a local attorney whose family has been steeped in Florence history and culture for decades; Dr. Louis D. Wright, Jr., art collector and retired pathologist who served the medical community of South Carolina for fifty years; Robert M. Hicklin, Jr., who has been a leading dealer in fine art relating to the South since 1972; Martha R. Severens, curator at the Gibbes Museum of Art 1976–1987, and the Greenville County Museum of Art, 1992–2010, and, since retirement, a consultant to museums and private collections, and Edith Howle, an insightful collector of Alfred Hutty’s work and the author of the catalogue raisonné of his prints.

Please join us in celebration of our recent publication The Wright Collection of Southern Art on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 5:30 PM with opening Remarks by Martha R. Severens and comments by Dr. Louis D. Wright, Jr.
