Explore the watercolor techniques, tools and materials used by South Carolina Artist Alice R. H. Smith. This class aims to take away the intimidation of working with watercolor. The course includes an optional bonus watercolor primer session for complete novices featuring materials demonstration, allowing students to select which ones best suit their needs and budgets. The remaining sessions are for beginning to intermediate students and will enhance the learner’s understanding of value, light and composition through the medium of watercolor and instruction of basic techniques. Uschi Jeffcoat

About the Artist

Born in Germany, Ursula Ann Jeffcoat goes by her childhood nickname Uschi. She is German-American and finds her home in both cultures, having grown up in Huntsville, Alabama.

Although she works in all mediums, watercolor is her favorite due to the thought process its execution requires. Typically, her work is a visual moment of reflection of the life and spaces she encounters.

She holds a degree in German and a minor in art from the University of South Alabama. Most recently she has returned to the classroom to teach German within the International Baccalaureate program. She has worked within the arts sector as the executive director of the Florence Regional Arts Alliance and as the curator of the Adele Kassab Gallery located within Francis Marion University’s Hyman Fine Arts Center. Her career paths tend to oscillate between a love for language and the Arts.

Uschi lives in Florence, South Carolina.
