Free Public Reception – Continuous

October 27, 2022 @ 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Free
Ben-Ra by Steven F. Gately

Join us on the evening of Thursday, October 27 from 5:30 to 7:00pm, for a brief lecture and reception in honor of South Carolina artist Steven F. Gately (1946 – 2021), whose exhibition Continuous is currently on display at the Florence County Museum Special Exhibit Gallery.

In the course of his accomplished career, Steven F. Gately explored modernist compositions in a wide diversity of media through a command of the fundamental elements and principles of art.

Using a selection of paintings, collage, drawings, and mixed media works, this exhibit presents the common themes and subtle continuities of Gately’s visual language throughout decades of his art. He was the subject of over twenty solo exhibitions during his lifetime and his work is represented in the collections of the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston; The Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia; the State Art Collection of South Carolina; and various other public and private collections.

Steven F. Gately was C.B. & Marlene Askins Professor of Art, and Coordinator of Visual Arts Programs at Francis Marion University, where he taught for 48 years.

Continuous will be on display in the Special Exhibit Gallery from July 26, 2022 through January 22, 2023.
