Elizabeth White Lecture Given by Florence County Museum Curator
Thursday, April 25, 2019
6:00 – 7:30pm
Elizabeth White was an ambitious printmaker and painter from Sumter, South Carolina. Her early training and social networking connected her to some of the most prominent Southern artists and institutions of the early 20th century. However, in spite of her prolific output and long career, her works remain relatively unknown.
This presentation, delivered by museum curator Stephen W. Motte, will introduce the audience to Elizabeth White, and propose how a recent rediscovery of White’s work may lead to deeper scholarship into previously unrecognized 20th century artists of the rural South.
The lecture will be held at the Florence County Museum, 111 West Cheves St, on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 6pm to 7:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
