Hutty: The Art of Observation

How does an artist’s rendering increase observation? What do the lines of an artist tell us? Hutty: The Art of Observation invites discovery in nomenclature through line and dendrology. Study the characteristics of trees and challenge yourself to identify them in this exhibition featuring the renowned prints of Charleston Renaissance artist, Alfred Hutty.

During World War I, Hutty served as a marine camouflage artist. Shortly after the war, he visited Charleston, South Carolina and would spend the rest of his life living between Charleston and Woodstock. His depictions and understanding of Charleston during that time secured his place as a renowned Charleston Renaissance artist.
